INTRODUCTION

"I write poems not for the mere purpose of writing but to touch lives, heal wounds and tackle social ills"

OGHENEDE FIDELIS

POETIC WHISPERS is a book that touches on reflections about spirituality and eternity. It truly whispers to the mind on the morals of any decision it takes.

It is engaging and thoughtful. The rich words entertain as well as push the mind to think beyond the scope of this world.

DEDICATION

Firstly, I dedicate this book to God almighty for giving me the grace and strength to complete this e-book

I dedicate it also to Nwaorisa Comfort. A friend dearest who has been my nearest and pushed me all the way to complete this everest.

ACKNOWLEDEGMENT

With a heart full of gratitude, I want to thank my mentor and friend Isaac Success Omoyele who gave me insights on properly structure my writings. My parents, Mr. Isaac Oghenede and Mrs. Grace Oghenede who keyed into my vision and always sacrificed their comfort to see me excel.

I thank my dear friend, MichealOyilawu who always enjoys my poems and encourages me day and night to be a better poet. I am blessed to have Sylvia Nwoyeocha and Ufuoma Ererobe, my fellow poets and spoken word artists from the poetry group ONE. You guys are a continuous source of inspiration for me. I am grateful to my brother, Christopher Erakpotobor who challenged me to be a deeper writer. I cannot forget my church youth leader, Justin Chieke who though our fields are different took out time to read my poems and encourage me.

I thank Paschal Amaechi my first source of inspiration during the years I doubted my abilities and who also taught me some valuable information and lessons I've been applying on my life.

Finally, I appreciate all my Facebook friends who encouraged me to put my work together and immortalize it. This is just one of many. I have many more stories to share.

I CAN WRITE

I can write a great song that touches a million hearts

A poem that sings of love found or a story that tells of great deeds

I can write of life, with its hardships and great toils

Or perhaps death with its journey into the unknown

I can write a bard's tale,

Of new lands and adventures

There might just be some wonder in the night songs you lull children.

Oh can l write

I can write of great wars and battles in history

A time capsule I'll create that tells the great deeds of our fathers

My pen dances atop the paper when I write of she who I long loved

Our romance fills the pages of all ages

Our love reminiscent of Romeo's Juliet

I fill the pages of books with blue-blooded ink

I am a master of my craft and a servant of history

I can write of all things; I know I'll never tire.

NOTE: The poet uses this first poem to show off his versatility as a writer, not limiting himself but spreading his wings and capturing all aspects of literature: Poetry, Drama and Prose.

MERCY

In the darkness of ignorance, sin evolves

Growing steadily like a yeast-strewn pudding

Sin consumes, induced it doesn't reduce

Using shadows of faithlessness, sin is born

In a twilight of anger, it comes forth

Men go about their daily work, walking with sin

They lie and cheat and steal, courting with sin

Businesses get boomed dealing with sin

Stacks of gold pile high, you're saving in sin

Truckloads of stolen goods you buy

And then you're selling with sin

Sin favours the sharp student who scribbles answers from 'blank' papers

It also pleases the lecturer who gives out marks on nice bedspreads

A cultist you are; sin is your trademark

See the graduate with straight A's...

He bought his results from VC SIN

Freshers seek admission on a queue

Admission is sure if you pay sin

Oh preacher's daughter sweet and simple

Come closer dear, have a date with sin

Politician in charge of billions?

Dip your hand in and take your share

It's 'just a sin'

Doctor in white robes of Medicine

Abort that healthy foetus, it's no big deal

Afterall, it's just thick blood

With all these sins, the world goes dark

We all go blind and fear sets in

Terrors of past crimes haunts our minds

Oh no humans! Are we all doomed?

Has sin come to rule as king?

A light from above descends on us

Shredding the claws of darkness that held us clutched

With hands stretched out in surrender, a lamb was slain

"IT IS FINISHED! " ends our strife

Out of this act, mercy was born

Mercy battled sin, 'twas long and hard

With a firm right hand we were pulled

From the darkness of ignorance, we emerged

Out of the depths of hatred we were raised

Coming forth from burning list that scorched us

Mercy freed us still

In chains of stealing we were bound

Still fighting sin, mercy freed our souls

Mercy gave us tongues of truth, we'll never lie again

Our torn souls were renewed through one act of mercy

What more can sin do?

Mercy said No!

NOTE: This poem highlights many things wrong with the Nigerian society of today. Corruption, theft, Exam malpractice, Lecturers blackmailing female students to their beds and Abortion.

The poet pleads for God's mercy upon mankind. He portrays God as a merciful being who despite the sins of humanity, sends his son Jesus Christ to die so as to wash away the sins of the world.
