LIMBO

By

Elancharan Gunasekaran

Littering stars

along

the night sky

two brains

creating

an imaginary landscape

salt and pepper

on his head

tasteless food

after each thought

a deleted memory

making room

tonight

the cold will lose

saying prayers

great movement

one foot after the other

crossing borders

I found mother

on her tongue

hurling obscenities

stillness

in the air

fleeting glances

dealing cards

to myself

raising bets

standing still

waiting for

demons to pass

no movement

breathing

is sin

a hand

hangs by the gate

fucking postman

beneath three lamps

I write

a haiku

living

is neither here nor there

dying

it senses

my despair

the coffee machine

Hot chocolate

has gone cold

limbo

sayonara

but the winds

will always return

flipping pages

one last chapter

I swear

enough

no more rice

bloated dreams

running sideways

hole to hole

escaped

sober

at the bar

sipping coke

Whisking eggs

heat the pan

melting butter

trouble

not the cops

get the neighbors

pretending

to be high

long night

brass plates

heavy

let me carry

into bed

at

first light

melding

a state of existence

just being there

Let me go

I’ll behave

let go

escaping reality

retreating

to my shelf

sleep, child

forget

restarting simulation

End.
