The absurdity of history, beginning as it did ten thousand years ago with the assorted constituents of life melded together, like a giant jigsaw puzzle given to a child on her birthday.

The war was fought and lost in my brain. It came unannounced. No siren brought the attack to our notice, nor were there rousing speeches by Churchill to hold us fast on the beaches.

The memes were silent, stealthy killers cloaked in pixels, expedited to our brains to subvert contemporary ideas of aspiration. At first, it was possible to resist with humour and modest scoffing at the openly ridiculous suggestions arriving at our news feeds.
