A Question Lingers in the Air



You can’t help but wonder why

in the usual this-or-that meeting,

some person acted cold to you,

in his manner and emotion,

as he sat looking at you;

his tone of voice like thin ice ready

to shatter in the space between you,

with his eyes like some far star

not concerned about distance

and the universal vacuum.

Why,

and was it because of you, or

some atmosphere,

you yourself created?
